This two-day course will discuss the importance of the team leader's role in tactical operations, training events, and administrative functions. The class will discuss topics related to tactics and strategies for tactical operations, civil liability considerations, use of force concerns, planning, equipment needs as well as national law enforcement trends surrounding tactical operations as a whole.  This has been a very well received course taught numerous times across the state by well-respected national instructors and serves as an excellent introduction for all members of tactical teams and particularly that of senior members who may become a TL in the future.  It also is a solid refresher course for those already filling the role ensuring your team and actions are on par with national standards and trends. 

Lead Instructor

Lead Instructor Sgt. Tony Ferro began his career with the Gainesville Police Department (FL) in 2008. He has worked in several areas of the agency, including patrol, K9, Street Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, Patrol Support, and currently is assigned to the SWAT team as the Assistant Team Commander. Ferro has been on SWAT since 2010 and has been full-time on and off since 2019. He served in many different roles on the team to include Breacher, Sniper, Assistant TL, Team Leader and now currently the Assistant Commander. Tony has been active with the Florida SWAT Association since 2020 as a Regional Rep and helping with Basic SWAT School, Ballistic Shield Operator, 2 Day Patrol Rifle completion and Round Up. He has served as a FSA Representative and FSA Secretary. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors as the FSA Training Coordinator. In 2021, Tony completed the National Tactical Officers Association Command College. Tony served in the United States Marine Corps from 1997 – 2001 before separating as a sergeant.
