Cost: $225.00 Basic Rappel Operator course teaches students with little to no experience proper rappel techniques for tactical operations. Students will rappel strong hand, weak hand, with descent devices from multiple platforms to include, ledge/wall, over hang edge/skid, windows and stairs. Student will learn proper belay techniques and basic knot tying and familiarization with rappel gear. Instructor Bio, Robert Porteus: In the 8 years I spent in the Marine Corps, I was certified as a Rappel Master for towers and multiple aerial platforms for both rappel, Fast Rope and S.P.I.E. (Special Patrolling Insertion/Extraction). Once I made the rank of SGT (E-5) I was accepted into the Special Operations Training Group Unit. There I was certified as a Summer and Winter Mountain leader which translates into a lead climbing and mountain rescue instructor. I taught the Marine Corps “Assault Climbers Course” and “Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel T.R.A.P.” courses. I was also certified as a HRST (Helicopter Rope Suspension Techniques) Master Instructor for towers, improvised rigging on buildings, UH-60, Ch-53, UH-1N, CH-46 Helicopters for rappel and Fast Rope. I have certified hundreds of Marines as HRST masters, Assault Climbers, Fast Rope Masters and TRAP capable units. Additionally, I am a combat veteran from Iraq 2005/2006. I currently work as an FTO for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, I joined the SWAT Team in 2010, I am the Lead for our rappel Cadre and a member of our Sniper Team.
