In Memory of Decardo “Iggy” Hylton

Jamaica Constabulary Force SWAT Team

It is with a heavy heart that the Florida SWAT Association and SWAT Round-Up International Committee announces the passing of Decardo “Iggy” Hylton of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

On Friday, June 12, 2020, while Constable Hylton and other members of the JCF were executing an early morning raid involving suspects with high-powered rifles, they came under heavy fire when one of the targeted suspects fired an M16 rifle at the team. Constable Hylton and Detective Corporal Dane Biggs were hit several times and succumbed to their injuries. Two other officers were also shot: Superintendent Leon Clunis is in the hospital in critical condition and District Constable Richards is in the hospital in stable condition.
Later that afternoon, a manhunt ensued with all the suspects being shot and killed. Two additional officers were injured and their injuries are non-life threatening.
In 2010, Constable Hylton became a police officer for Jamaica Constabulary Force after graduating from high school. “Iggy” competed at SWAT Round-Up for many years with the JCF. He was a true gentleman and a fierce competitor.

The Florida SWAT Association and SRI Committee offer our deepest condolences to Decardo’s family, friends and JCF co-workers, and are extremely appreciative of the many years he supported our organization and event.
