The use of
SWAT teams to conduct court authorized search warrants has increasingly
become more scrutinized in today’s society. As a result, the courts have
ruled on several issues that can effect the day to day operations of a
SWAT team. This three day (30 hour) course will cover recent case law
pertaining to high risk search warrants, the review of “search warrants
gone bad,” and planning considerations. The class will be divided into
teams, each team will conduct a drive by on a target location to obtain
intelligence and form a tactical plan. Although a large portion of this
class is classroom instruction, teams will be executing scenario based
search warrants with Sims gear, conducting the manual breaching of
doors, and conducting live fire team movements in a 360 degree shoot
house. This class will provide students the opportunity to plan and
execute search warrants, as well as the knowledge and understanding of
legal considerations that impact tactical operations.
